Lots of us dream about having holiday home either here or abroad. Sometimes we achieve this and when we do, it invariably calls for a refit of some part or other. I’m recalling here a holiday home in Sussex that my parents shared with an uncle. Thre were always wrangles over whose responsibilty it was to get the furniture repaired, cleaned, replaced etc. Then a catastrophe occured – the upstairs water tank gave way and water spilled through the ceiling of the large kitchen-breakfast-dining room. It completely ruined a lot of the furniture and caused serious breech of brotherly love! To get it sorted, the wives got in a superb joiner and cabinet maker to completely replace the articles and whilst he was at it, he custom built new kitchen cabinets and a couple for the bathroom – one with infill basin. So the tale was less sorry in the end. The finished results are still much loved today.
