Now that some young relatives of mine have been in their country house for a few weeks, it is fascinating chatting to them about what they’ve found they like and perhaps dislike, about their much dreamed of house. Before moving in, during those frustrating weeks of waiting for everyone else’s conveyancing to fall into line, they would drive out to the house and walk round the grounds, peer through the windows and plan what they’d be buying to furnish it. Good job the sale eventually took place. They did indeed buy all the furniture they planned, in stages over three months. Sumptuously huge four seater sofas in the main sitting room would crowd out a smaller room but this ex school room is massive and airy. The dresser takes up one entire wall, but is stunning – everything is oak. They have style – country chic with a modern twist.
